EDI - ODETTE Standard
ODETTE, the European organization behind the automotive-specific EDI standard.
How does ODETTE work?
The Organization for Data Exchange by Tele Transmission in Europe (ODETTE) is a group representing the main players in the automotive industry in Europe. In North America, its equivalent would be AIAG (Automotive Industry Action Group).
This organization develops tools and recommendations to improve the flow of goods, services and products within the supply chain, based on information management throughout the automotive industry value chain.
ODETTE is responsible for one of the most established standards for EDI electronic data interchange in the automotive sector, an industry in which the role of telecommunications is essential to meet the requirements of JIT (Just In Time) policies, which are so widespread in this field of work.
The messages developed under this standard are specific to the needs of assembly lines and TIER 1 or TIER 2 suppliers. EDI document flows are often complemented by X12 and EDIFACT standards to manage shipping notifications or invoices.
